NLP - By Helene & Jack MAkani

NLP is simple model for understanding & developing one’s mind & thereby one’s mind & thereby one’s opportunities. Since the model’s development in the USA in the 1970s it has spread over most of the world. The reason for the enormous popularity of NLP is probably that it does in fact work! NLP provides tools that can support people to change their way of thinking & by doing so, enhance their ability to communicate, motivate themselves & others, set goals, and be creative in difficult times & much more.

Since 1990, we (Helen & Jack Makani) have taught NLP to thousands of people in Scandinavia, the
Russian area & Cyprus. We have enjoyed seeing our students discover new possibilities in their lives & unfold these to the benefit of themselves, their family friends & the society they live in. Perhaps all learning is about discovering the potential one holds inside oneself & making use of it.
This is also what NLP is about & the model has proven very effective for this purpose.

This material has been developed for two purposes: for self study for those who want to get acquainted with NLP, & also as teaching material for NLP Practitioner training.

Though the years it has been our goal that everyone should be able to acquire this formidable knowledge & insight about what is possible for a human being. We therefore developed this self
study pack containing the material & practical demonstrations of an NLP practitioner training. By
actively using this study pack you can create an even better life for yourself & have improved
functioning in your job & in your family. If you also want an NLP Practitioner certificate, you must
enroll in an NLP school to get more practical practice & receive feedback from skilled NLP trainers
as well as go through an evaluation. Some schools (like Makani academy & some of our Associates) offer accelerated modules for those who have prepared well in advance.

We suggest that you….
1) Start by finding 60 hours in your calendar that you can set aside for self study. If you have a
deadline, you can start at the end date & move backwards to today’s date. Be realistic about
how much time you have where you can concentrate & be undisturbed. For most people it works best to aside short periods where motivation & focus are high.

2) Make your goal totally clear! Write down what it will give you & why you have chosen to spend time on this. Visualize the achieved goal as clearly as possible in your mind’s eye.

If you find yourself losing motivation along the way, find the goal you wrote down & remind yourself why you are doing it.

3) A basic principle of learning is that one does not only read the text, but also actively does something with what one has read. This stimulates more parts of the brain, enabling it to process & remember the new leaning.

Visual learning: Write the key words & draw a symbol for each of them. Or make a mind map, connecting the new terms & words you learn. Use colours!

Auditory learning: Find a voice recorder & record a lesson. Listen to it while youdrive a car do practical work. Include the evolution answers at the end of the lesson & test yourself.

Kinesthetic learning: Write the key words on small pieces of paper & write thedefinition / answer on the back. Put the pieces of paper on a table, pick up one of them & give the definition/answer. Then check your answer with what is written on the back.

A.D. learning: Read about the terms & concepts & structure them in your own way,for instance in a diagram.

4) Another basic principle of repetition! This is the reason why most of the lessons have DVD/CD exercises that are repetitions. Even though many people find it boring to repeat, you should try to motivate yourself. By repeating, you will probably notice new things each time you watch\listen to it – so if you stay open to finding new things in it, you will benefit greatly.
We would like to point out that practicing the exercises is fully your own responsibility.

Also, going through the material without supervised training is not a solid enough foundation to do change work with other people!

Welcome to the exciting world of NLP!
